How to Clean a Bar Area

Austin is full of bar and restaurant owners so I wanted to write a post specifically geared to you and how to properly clean your bar area.  I can tell you from experience, walking into a stinky bar or restaurant is enough to make me turn around and leave. There is nothing worse than walking into a place that smells like dirty dishrag or last nights tequila and sweet & sour spills, right?  So this post is specifically geared toward how to make your bar smell crystal clean all the time.

First of all, let me say this, your bar MUST be thoroughly cleaned daily. I know, I know, this is a lot of work, but it’s important. Think about all of the alcohol and sugary syrups that are spilled onto the floors day in and day out.  Here are the 5 items that have to be done daily to keep your bar looking and smelling crispy clean:

  1. Wash and mop floors
  2. Wipe clean counters and stainless
  3. Take trash out, if not more often
  4. Wash trash receptacles (you would not believe how much is spilled onto these daily.)
  5.  Rinse and disinfect all floor mats (If you can avoid these altogether, that is a better option. These things hold an intense amount of odor)
Here’s a tip for your floor mats. Like I mentioned above in point number five, they have a tendency to hold in odor, even after rinsing them daily. To help with this, add a scented Clorox to your rinsing water.  This will not only disinfect but will leave a fresh scent for a little added bonus. My favorite is lemon fresh because how can you not associate lemon with freshly cleaned. You can also use the regular Clorox, however, the smell can leave your area smelling very harsh.

Aside from the importance of keeping your bar area smelling good,  keeping it clean will also keep fruit flies at bay. Sugar attracts those pesky flies. Have you ever had those in your bar or home? They populate very quickly, so once you have them, it is difficult to get rid of them.
