Characteristics a Janitorial Company Should Have

Five Janitorial Company Characteristics

February 7th, 2013   •   No Comments

Business Insider reported that seven out of the ten fastest growing franchises in 2011 were cleaning companies!  Despite the bad economic times, the commercial cleaning industry seems to be sweeping the market. Austin Professional Cleaning Services was founded on 9/2008 and since then, we’ve experienced growth with each year in service. Whether you’re a franchisee or a small business impresario, be sure to consider the following five janitorial company characteristics:

1         Be Flexible

Unlike a residential cleaning company, a commercial janitorial company must be willing to work all hours of the day or night in order to build and increase its clientele portfolio. Some clients request for the cleaning to be done after business hours while some clients request it is done during business hours.

2         Superior Equipment

Janitorial companies are typically responsible for cleaning large areas like hotel lobbies, warehouses and office building with 20,000 Sqft and up. Do not vacuum more than 1,000 square feet with an Upright Vacuum. Invest $300.00 and purchase a Back-Pack Vacuum for yourself or your cleaning crew. This will cut the labor time in half and reduce risks of injuries.

3         Immaculate Service

Customer service is very important in the cleaning industry. People have very different definitions of what clean is, and some of your customers will demand a white-glove inspection of your work. Be sure that your performance passes the test, no matter how stringent it may be. If your work impresses the right people, word will get around fast and your business will experience some growth through referrals.

4         Eco-friendly Solutions

In the past 5 years there has been an increase in requests for Green Cleaning. There are many products out there that are Green Certified. The cost for these products vs the conventional products are sometimes a bit higher, but it is money well invested if you target the right clientele that is willing to pay a small premium for these services. Consider also making your own Green Cleaning Products. These home-made cleaners usually consist of: Vinegar, Water, Lime Juice, Baking powder, etc. There are many recipes out there… You can alter them a bit to ensure it works best for your cleaning needs.

5         A recognizable and well-known brand.

As with any business endeavor, branding is Key when it comes to your janitorial company. Start off with a simple and identifiable logo, get the word out and then ensure that your business practices are aligned with the feelings and opinions you want your customer base to have when they see your logo or hear your company’s name.  At Austin Professional Cleaning Services we stride to offer Professional Cleaning Services with great Customer Service!
