Bathrooms that have a high traffic and usage, like in restaurants, bars, and offices, all need proper cleaning to prevent contamination, spreading of bacteria. For restaurant… keep in mind some clients judge a restaurant by the cleanliness of its restrooms. Here are some important steps on how to properly clean & disinfect a bathroom.

Supplies needed to thoroughly and professionally clean a bathroom:

  • Janitorial Cart
  •  Caution Signs (Wet Floor)
  • Brooms
  • Dustpans
  • Mop
  • Bucket with Wringer
  • Garbage Bags
  • Disinfecting Sprays
  • Windex or window cleaner
  • Scrubbing pads
  • Aerosol
  • Toilet Bowl Cleaners
  • Scented Urinal Blocks and Screens

Before you start:

  • To start cleaning you should first make sure you have all the necessary supplies in your janitorial cart.  Having all the supplies is an efficient way to clean.
  • Make sure the bathroom is not being occupied and place a sign to let people know the bathrooms are closed for cleaning.
  • Leave the door open so that people know there is someone cleaning it.

Daily Cleaning:

  • Throw away any trash that is on the floors or around the sink and toilets and urinals.
  • Empty out the trashcans and remove the trash can liners and put new ones.
  • Make sure to check if there is enough soap, toilet paper, and paper towel in the dispensers and stock them if needed.
  • Spray the toilets and sinks with a disinfecting spray. Wipe them clean.

Weekly Cleaning:

  • A more intense cleaning will be done once a week. Clean and scrub all the toilets and urinals with the toilet cleanser.
  • With a disinfecting spray, wipe all the exterior of the toilets and urinals. Make sure to lift up the seat and properly clean it. If you miss a spot it can cause bad odor.
  • Make sure to disinfect the bathroom doors and especially the handles. Also disinfect the light switches, countertops and dispensers.
  • Clean all mirrors with Windex or any other glass cleaner.
  • Disinfect the sink, the faucets and the handles with a disinfecting spray.
  • Sweep and mop the floors. Make sure to use that broom and mop only to clean the bathrooms.

Monthly Cleaning:

  • Dust all areas like the doors, shelves, hand dryers, dispensers, etc.
  • Change all the deodorizers and air fresheners.
  • Change the urinal blocks and screens.
  • Make sure the drains are not clogged.
